Are Girls Smarter than Boys?

It is important to understand that there is a range of typical speech and language development and, although boys sometimes lag behind, they still fall within the normal range, trailing by just a few months. In other words, if a boy seems to be behind in his speech and language development, using his gender as an excuse is not advisable.

The critical period for language development is under the age of three and there are often lengthy waitlists to see an SLP. Further investigation by a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) may be warranted rather than taking a ‘wait-and-see’ approach.
